Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy development and review: Assist the Head – Production in developing the strategy for the Steel Making business aimed at enhancing customer value. Formulation and implementation of operating plan to ensure achievement of business goals and targets. Conduct periodic review of business strategy and identify preventive and corrective action. Take measures on energy conservation, process efficiency, quality enhancement and cost optimization as benchmarking project. Plan and obtain budget allocation for operation expenses in different heads and control the expenditure within budget for all the associated units (SMS, Casters, bar mill and plate mill) |
Driving Operational excellence: Ensure cost effective, efficient, safe, reliable process as per production schedule with management of technical & administrative issues in O&M. Ensure Process Efficiency and assume responsibility for meeting production and quality targets by adhering to production target and maintenance schedules of all Steel Making Units (SMS, Casters, bar mill, plate mill). Provide guidance and direction in relation to the day to day operations and maintenance works of associated units and be an active troubleshooter for the HoDs. To ensure excellent upkeep and maintenance of the plant to maximize Plant Availability for the production. Regular monitoring of production losses and undertake course corrective actions with least loss of time. Review the performance of outsourced agencies and ensure that they are performing in line with the identified performance parameters as per contract and ensure productivity improvement over period of time. Driving business excellence and quality: Undertake benchmarking activities with the best operating Steel making units and institutionalize best O&M practices. Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities. Liaise with the associated units toward evaluating new technologies to improve process capabilities, product quality and throughput requirements. Identify business risks and ensure risk mitigation initiatives at each level. |
Materials, Services and resource management: Review inputs in relation to raw material / spares / consumables procurement Effectively manage raw material, fuel and other consumables for achieving optimal efficiency Implementation of energy conservation measures Implementation of water conservation measures Involved in vendor identification and selection along with the commercial department and monitor performance of the vendor involved in the associated units and ensure cost effectiveness and year on year productivity improvement of the vendor Optimizing inventory required for maintenance Cost optimization in works and procurement. |
Regulatory compliance: Promote best practices in safety, hygiene and environmental management Ensuring regular internal safety audits for the associated unit Ensure compliance to Government & Statutory Rules and Regulations and coordination with officials |
People Development: Drive organizational values and culture Identify performance measures for the function heads and monitor them on a regular basis Support management in succession planning, recruitment and performance management for the associated units. Ensure teamwork and motivation of workforce to ensure smooth production Design and facilitate internal training programs Develop sub-ordinates to deliver superior results. |
